Dream Catcher is a dream journal. We built it to be private by design: your dreams live on your device, and most of the app works without an account, the internet, or sharing anything with anyone. This policy explains what we collect, when, and why — in plain language.
Everything you write — dream titles, descriptions, tags, moods, lucidity and clarity ratings, and notes — is saved in a private database on your phone. By default this data stays there. We can't see it, and it isn't sent anywhere unless you turn on one of the optional features below.
If you want to back up your journal or use it across more than one device, you can sign in with Google Sign-In. Signing in is entirely optional and not required to use the app.
When you sync, the following is stored on our servers, tied to your account:
We don't collect your name, profile photo, or phone number. Your local copy always stays on your device too — syncing adds a backup, it doesn't move your data away from you.
Dream Catcher offers an optional feature that uses Google's Gemini AI (via Firebase AI Logic) to generate a reflective interpretation of a single dream you choose to interpret.
To understand how the app is used and to fix problems, we use Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. These collect anonymous usage events (for example, that a feature was opened) and, when the app crashes, technical diagnostics such as your device model, operating system version, app configuration, and an IP-derived region. The content of your dreams is never included in analytics or crash reports, and none of this information is used to identify you personally.
The free version of the app shows ads through Google AdMob and AppLovin. These services may use your device's advertising identifier to show and measure ads. You can reset or limit this identifier in your device settings, and upgrading to Pro removes ads entirely.
Dream Catcher is free with an optional Pro upgrade and subscriptions. All payments are handled by the App Store on iOS and the Google Play Store on Android — the app never sees or stores your card or payment details. We only receive confirmation of your purchase so we can unlock Pro features and record when your subscription is valid until.
We only ask for what the app needs: internet and network access (for sync, ads, and analytics), notifications (for the optional dream reminders and reality checks), and the fingerprint/biometric sensor (for the optional PIN lock that protects your journal). The app does not access your location, camera, microphone, contacts, or photo library.
You can lock the app behind a PIN and your device's biometric unlock. Data sent during sync and AI interpretation is transmitted over encrypted connections. That said, no method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security — but we use commercially reasonable measures to protect your information.
Dream Catcher is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
